What’s the big deal with ISO15883-5 2021

And… how does if affect me?

So what can we do?

Fortunately, the team at SESS has been working on solving this problem for quite some time. We have been scouring the planet for solutions to all these problems in preparation for this day.

What we have been able to create is an overall system that will ensure you are not only compliant with 15883-5 but you will ultimately continue to ensure your CSSD’s cleaning efficacy is always operating at the highest level possible.

What’s new?

ISO15883-5 has brought about a significant shift in the way that we understand ‘cleaning’. The overall premise of what has been added involves the identification and quantification of residual proteins on the instruments after they have been processed.

This is a major leap from where we were at and this ultimately means a few things:

  1. The PCDs that you are using may use synthetic materials which means it probably isn’t ‘clinically’ significant enough to comply

  2. Swabbing instruments and testing the presence of protein doesn’t quantify the level of protein enough any longer to comply

  3. Your validations need to change too! To ensure your yearly validation is compliant be sure to ask the team conducting the validations if they are testing in accordance with these changes
