How to Process your Biological Indicators Post Validation
Ensure that you have requested SESS to bring BI’s for the validation, alternatively they can be purchased from our online store.
Only 6 x biological indicators will be processed through your sterilizer. • 1 x biological indicator of the 7 in total is to be marked “Z” and is not to be processed at all. • The indicator marked “Z” is known as the control biological and is used to ensure the remainder of the batch of indicators used is legitimate. Best to put aside from start to ensure it does not get processed.
Within the challenge load, the heaviest/densest pack will be selected for biological indicator testing. It is also the pack generally used for the penetration test (see graph provided from our techs after the validation)
Using the determined challenge load, one biological indicator (BI) is to be placed inside the challenge pack.
Place the challenge pack so that the BI is situated as close to the measured COLD SPOT as possible.
Place a second BI next to the challenge pack, on the tray as close to the COLD SPOT as possible. NOTE: Usually these indicators would be labelled P1 for PACK / LOAD 1 and T1 for TRAY / LOAD 1.
The process listed is to be repeated a further 2 more times in consecutive cycles on the same day. The indicators for loads 2 & 3 should be labelled: • 2nd Load = P2 (PACK LOAD 2) & T2 (TRAY LOAD 2) • 3rd Load = P3 (PACK LOAD 3) & T3 (TRAY LOAD2)
Fill in the section at the bottom of the SESS validation data report indicating time and date each cycle has been run.
Once completed all 7 labelled indicators (including control BI) are to be placed together (preferably a clean specimen jar or pouch) and return to SESS for testing and results.
Once results have been obtained (from SESS), transfer information to complete and sign the section of the validation data report marked PASS/FAIL
The validation of your benchtop sterilizer is now complete and is valid for a period of 12 months.
